This is a portrait of Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, the hero of the German Army, known as the "Desert Fox" (Part 2). This photo is likely from the Western European Blitzkrieg, not Africa. He is wearing a Leica camera around his neck. Rommel was an avid photographer and a Leica enthusiast. In February 1943, he was gifted a Leica IIIc model with serial number 375000 by Ernst Leitz. (Leitz was known for gifting special serial number Leicas (round numbers or repeating digits) to scientists, explorers, politicians, and photographers.)
